Hi all, i came upon an old dresser made in the 1950's, the planks have 28 1/2" long x 5 1/2" wide x 3/4" thick. To my novice's eyes, it looks like maple but not sure. could you identify it for me and would it be good for neck blanks and if so, would it look good on a guitar made with LUTZ TOP and EIR back & sides? I'm about to start a double build for my Mom and Dad, not wanting to take any chances and your input would be very welcome.

Thanks guys anyways, hard to tell, one would have to see it closer i guess! Gonna just put it aside for a while and probably use it for tail blocks or something else structural! Really dense though. might just be very amical lard too

If it's cedar you should just be able to sand it a bit and give it a smell test. I love the smell of sanded cedar.   

...Hmmm, sanded cedar... someone should look into making a perfume with that scent... I bet it would go over big time with the ladies!

I've used some of that "dresser wood" too. Mine was definitely not cedar. Maple or beech. Good fer jigs n such

Doesn't smell anything like cdar though! Should either be maple or fraxinus, which i don't know the English name BTW.

Looks like Bass wood (Tilia americana), to me anyways.
